THE TRILOGY - AGUA, FUEGO, ACATENANGO
For confirmed mountainers (difference in altitude: 5000m). Departure from Antigua around 11:00pm to start the ascension of the Agua volcano, then downhill. Once at the bottom of the volcano you can walk to Alotenango but it's a 10km walk, we recomend you to do this part by car.
Ascencion of the Fuego Volcano and the Acatenango Volcano and downhill towards La Soleda where a vehicule will wait for you to take you back to Antigua.
From our experience this trek ends between 3:00pm and 5:00pm and it should be done between december and march.
PETEXBATUN - CANCUEN - CANDELARIA
Day 1 - Flores - Aguateca - Petexbatun
Transfer in minivan from Flores to Sayaxhe, boat trip on the Rio Pasion, in the middle of the tropical forest, where you will observe a variety of animal species. Arrival at the Petexbatun lagoon and visit of Aguateca, picnic, continuation of the visit. Accomodation in the Petexbatun lodge for a night in the middle of the jungle. Dinner at the lodge.
Day 2 - Petexbatun - La Candelaria
Boat trip to get to the Tamarindo road and transfer in minivan to Raxhura. Then by 4x4 or pick-up you will go to Pueblo de la Isla. From there boat transportation to Cancuen to visit the site which is still in restoration. Picnic and then return to Raxhua. Transfer to La Candelaria lodge situated in a splendid tropical park. Dinner and accommodation in the lodge.
Day 3 - La Candelaria - Flores
Visit of the cave of La Candelaria and of the "sacred river of the Mayas", subterranean river. Lunch at the lodge then transfer to Flores.
FLORES - AGUATECA - BETHEL - YAXHILAN
Day 1 - Flores - Aguateca - Petexbatun
Transfer in minivan from Flores to Sayaxhe. Then boat trip on the Rio Pasion, in the middle of the tropical forest, where you will observe a variety of animal species. Once you arrive you will visit the Mayan site of Ceibal and then go to the Petexbatun lagoon. Visit of Aguateca, picnic, and continuation of the visit. Accommodation in the Petexbatun lodge for a night in the middle of the jungle. Dinner at the lodge.
Day 2 - Petexbatun - Bethel
Boat trip to get to the road. Transfer to Bethel on the river side of Rio Usumacinta on the mexican border. Visit of a Mayan altar of sacrifice. Accommodation in Posada Maya (hotel ran by the local community).
Day 3 - Bethel - Yaxhilan - Flores
Boat tour on the Usumacinta river, arrival to the site of Yaxhilan (the temple of music), located on the Mexican riverside. Visit of the site then back to Posada Maya for lunch. Transfer to Flores.
FLORES - BETHEL - YAXHILAN - BONAMPAK - FLORES
Day 1 - Flores - Bethel
Transfer from Flores to Bethel which is situated on the riverside of the Usumacinta on the Mexican border. Lunch at the lodge and boat transportation to visit the site of Yaxhilan. Return to Bethel for the night.
Day 2 - Bethel - Bonampak - Flores
Crossing of the Usumacinta river, border crossing and transfer to Bonampak for the visit of the site, unique for its wall paintings of the mayan period. This site is ran by the Lacandon community who are the only true direct descendent of the Mayas. Return to Bethel for lunch and transfer to Flores.
EL ZOTZ - TIKAL
Day 1 - Flores - El Zotz
Very early in the morning transfer by 4x4 or pick-up from Flores to Cruce Dos Aguas. Then 4/5 hours trek in the jungle of the Mayan biosphere to arrive to El Zotz. You will set up the camp, then visit the bat cliff. Thousands of bats of all sizes come out at dusk for their nocturnal hunting. Bats are also very important for the seeds spreading and the pollinization. This is followed by dinner and night at the camp.
Day 2 - El Zotz - El Yesal
After breakfast, 6 hour trek to the mirador of El Yesa. Dinner and night at the camp.
Day 3 - El Yesal - Tikal - Flores
Departure around 7:00am for another 5 hours of hiking to arrive in Tikal close to the temple IV. Horses are not admitted in the park, so you'll have to carry your luggages for about 2 hours. Return to Flores by car.
EL MIRADOR
Day 1 - Flores - Carmelita - El Tintal
Early in the morning transfer to Carmelita where the trek begins. There is an 8 hour trek to arrive to the site of El Tintal where you will visit the ruins. Night at the camp.
Day 2 - El Tintal - El Carrizal
Early in the morning departure to the camp of the Chicleros. 6 to 7 hours of trekking in the jungle to arrive at the camp and enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Day 3 - El Carrizal - El Mirador
Last part to arrive to El Mirador, the biggest and oldest site of the Mayan world. The main pyramid covers an area equivalent to 3 soccer fields, it has 18 stories and it is 60m high. It's a 10km hike from El Carrizal. Dinner and night at the camp.
Day 4 - El Mirador
Visit of the site. In the afternoon free time to rest, meals and night at the camp.
Day 5 - El Mirador - Nakbe
You will start a hike of 6/7 hours to return to Carmelita. Night at the camp in Nakbe.
Day 6 - Transfer back to Flores.
SEA FISHING
LAS LISAS
Day 1 - Antigua - Las Lisas
Transfer in a minivan to Las Lisas and then by boat to get to the hotel. Meals and night at the hotel.
Day 2 - Las Lisas
After breakfast you will spend the whole day fishing. Dinner and night.
Day 3 - Las Lisas
Breakfast and then day at the beach. Dinner and night.
Day 4 - Las Lisas - Antigua
After breakfast transportation back to Antigua.
BEACHES
The Pacific coast offers beaches of black sand where the temperature of the water is always perfect.
Monterrico or Las Lisas can be two of these ideal places to end your trip and recharge yourself with good energy before returning to civilization...!
