Our favorite site: A lake surrounded by tropical forest of the Mayan biosphere with many animal species, some endangered. An archaelogical site of an exceptional value, the only one that allows to see the organization of a Mayan urban area with an estimated population of 40,000 resident.
A very decent lodge to spend the night. A breathtaking sunset from the top of the pyramid 2-16, with parrots, tucans, howler monkeys and "spider" monkey who seem to observe the visitors. A night excursion on the lake to watch the crocodiles, your guide might catch some little ones to show you.

Cancuen CEIBAL

Located in Alta Verapaz, on the shore of the Rio Pasion, comercial road of the Mayans, the forgotten city of Cancuen was discovered in 1907 and was left aside until these last years. Nowadays it's been restored and the interresting part of the project is that the indigenous community is participating in it, inplicated in this way we might think that they will take care of the maintenance and the protection of whole site. The researcher estimate that Cancuen used to have a population of 40,000 inhabitant. Far from the traditional touristic path, this place make an original destination. No structure is yet available, and it's still little adventure. The site should be open to the public in december 2003.
